Raptor Center
The Raptor Center of Pueblo is a facility that rehabilitates injured birds of prey for their eventual release back into the wild. The birds that cannot be released due to the severity of their injuries are either used for educational programming at the facility or are transferred to other educational facilities. Of the 200 hawks, eagles, owls, falcons, and other raptors treated at the facility annually, the majority are admitted due to human related accidents such as automobile collisions, power line electrocution, and pesticide poisonings. The facility currently returns to the wild approximately half of the birds that it cares for.

The Raptor Center operates with two paid staff and a number of volunteers, including two veterinarians and their dedicated staff. Interested individuals from the age of fourteen and up are eligible to take part in the volunteer training program. As volunteers progress through training they are continually introduced to more complex aspects of raptor rehabilitation. Eventually the volunteer will have the ability to work independent of direct supervision and will then be given the option of taking on more responsibilities. Volunteers are involved in all aspects of the Raptor Center's operation. Click Here for a Volunteer Application

Although the Raptor Center was established to provide the best rehabilitative care to injured birds of prey, the Raptor Center places equal emphasis on its educational programming. Over 10,000 school children participate in educational field trips at the facility each year. In addition the Raptor Center of Pueblo is open to visitors free of charge 11am-4pm Tuesday-Sunday.
